Manchester – April 2024

Our latest event.

Seeing BSL so visible across central Manchester instilled a sense of pride in our beautiful language that we were very proud to share and celebrate with the mainstream community.  Memories include new research findings in Peter Brown’s talk on the birth of Modern BSL, a mixed Deaf and hearing group discussing the film ‘Power in Our Hands’, captivating and vibrant poetry, VV, comedy and storytelling, Andy Burnham opening the BSL Conference (and looking taken aback at the very enthusiastic BSL applause when he signed ‘Welcome to Manchester’), The Mayor of the City of Manchester, Rosie Cooper and Corrie actors Dolly Rose Campbell and Cherylee Houston signing all or part of their opening speeches.  It was wonderfully colourful and fun, and felt empowering.

A great big thankyou back for giving our children the opportunity to be a part of an amazing day! We loved it! We have had some lovely messages from the parents and carers and we are hoping to be invited back next year! It was great to chat to some of your friends before our performance too! I was also slightly star struck to see the lovely lady from SigntoSing on the stage! She is such a great role model for all our children.

The BSL tour went well - at least two hearing people said that they really enjoyed it. There were 11 people i total apart from Meg, Siobhan and myself - none apart from one had been to a BSL tour before in MAG.

Thank you so much for having us at the BSL festival. I really enjoyed myself. Please let me know whether there is anything more I can do for you. Doing the festival has given me the confidence to sign up for level 6. I'm starting it in September.

Also I would like to thank you back for leading to this fabulous BSL Party in the Park and gained valuable experience as steward, seeing Hearing Advisory Service as sponsor board and communicating with Deafblind on hand-held communication. The person enjoyed it and giving Deafblind guide to relax and enjoyed the party. Roll on Southampton BSL Fest on 2025!
